Day of the Match - H Huddersfield

If someone had predicted this scoreline before the game, you’d never have believed them, with six players backing up from the international match less than 48 hours previously. However with Saints points scoring all taking place in a half an hour purple patch surrounding the half-time interval, it’s safe to say a less tired outfit could have run in about fifteen tries. Whether we were brilliant in that patch or whether they were simply woeful, I do not know, but it really makes you wonder how on earth we tamely surrendered a big lead at their gaff earlier in the season.

Day of the Match - A Leeds

In what was one of the best performances for many a long day, Saints closed the gap on the Rhinos at the top of the table to just two points with a convincing and thoroughly deserved win in a game of classic defence from both sides. With four members of the pack missing, few outside Knowsley Road gave Saints a chance but if anyone was thinking that Leeds were now clearly the top dog with Saints on the slide they can think again. This was a statement of intent and one that can give us great belief for the Challenge Cup Semi-Final and the predicted Grand Final clash to come.

Matty Smith sent out on loan to Widnes
Saints half back Matty Smith has been sent out on loan to Widnes for the next month initially with the plan to extend it until the end of the season. Smith is currently deputy to Sean Long and has just returned from a broken arm, so his first team chance have been limited this season. The move will give him some regular game time.

Day of the Match - H Bradford

As expected, Saints blitzed an injury ravaged Bulls outfit with another try-fest at Knowsley Road, despite, in truth, barely getting out of first gear all evening. Indeed, the Bulls could have had a few more scores themselves in a game that was punctuated by a rack of penalties, mainly in Saints favour, as the visitors ill discipline cost them dear. The big story of the day though was obviously though the most unexpected hat-trick of all time as Bryn Hargreaves ended his two seasons try drought, since signing from Wigan, with three incredible tries under the sticks.
