Things are not getting any better for the Saints after an admittedly injury stricken outfit plunged to a dismal defeat at the hapless London Broncos. Today's defeat was only the second ever that Saints have suffered away to the Broncos and there would appear to be a tough battle ahead to secure one of the top eight places.

Full Time - Hull KR 26 Saints 18 (TCC4)

Apologies for the lack of updates as I've been away on holiday for a week, and what do I come back to? Saints first opening game knock-out in the Challenge Cup since 1985, a season finishing injury for Mark Flanagan, a season finishing threat for Francis Meli, suspensions for Jon Wilkin and Adie Gardner and fears that Jonny Lomax and James Roby may not be back till July - then some want to blame Nathan Brown.

These are difficult times and this is likely to be the worst season we have ever seen but I'm seeing signs that we are hitting the trough now and we will emerge the other side. We just need to calm down, take stock, maybe write the season off and ride the storm. Nathan Brown needs to be given three years to see where he can take us. He's spotted our weaknesses, now it's up to him and the chairman to see if they can rectify them. But we need patience now. The glory days are well and truly over and they are not going to return overnight. It's time to be realistic and take us for what we are and what we hope to be, and stop comparing us to the great sides of the past. Remember how bad Wigan went before they returned to the summit? Now it's our turn to do the same. Keep the faith!

Saints put their shaky league form behind them and start on the road to Wembley when they visit Hull KR in the fourth round of the Tetley's Challenge Cup on Saturday (April 20, kick-off 2.30pm).
